Floris lives with his new pack for over a week now. It feels longer because he is totally accepted by all pack members. No difficult task for Floris as he is an easy going and very social Drent
At night he sleeps in the Dog room with Geoff and Eva. Not in a bench because he doesn’t feel like it. He rather sleeps next Geoff or Eva, for whom this is no problem at all. When he wakes up in the morning he is going to play quietly until the others (and we) are awake and it’s time for his round and breakfast.
And breakfast should of course be consumed together with the rest of the pack. No eating seperately, that is something for puppies he says. Thus 5 Drents are eating in a row. Besides Floris knows very well how to find the refrigerator. Where those delicious pancakes come from, not to mention the cheese. For insiders: a piece of “Tomme de Bretagne” he also finds very tasty!
Of course Floris is going into the fields. This is a daily joy for the whole pack. Fantastic to see how he runs and plays with the others. Geoff is really a great example. You see how Floris looks up at him and tries copy his behaviour. A nice anecdote; When Geoff lifted his leg to urinate, you saw Floris think: Wow .. that’s cool, how do you do that? He was looking at it at a very close distance from Geoff so Geoff peed over Floris unintended. Floris wasn’t startled at all.
You can see that Floris is a real hunting dog and has been in contact with a lot of wildlife in Sweden when he and Eve and Geoff get the scent of game in their noses. Three noses go up in the air and in an instant they dive into the bushes. After a little time a pheasant comes out of the bushes running for it’s life loudly cursing as it is huntend down by Geoff, Floris and Eva.
In our youngest female Bryn, Floris has found his partner in crime. Together removing the cushions from the sofa is a favorite game. You sometimes see them look at each other to decide: what we will get up to next?
To go into the fields with the pack is of course very entertaining, but Floris also must be able to stand on its own feet in the field. So we also went into a forrest with the two of us. He does very well.
It takes some getting used to when two barking Drent ladies running towards him who do not belong to his pack.
But if the courtesies are exchanged, he runs along with them and dives after them as they disappear into a mud ditch …
