Floris becomes a ’tough guy’

grote-stappersFloris is growing. We expect him to be a large dog as per his strong bone and feet. But for now, I mean the “puppy-like” becomes less valid. Next Wednesday he’s already 5 months old. Officially  he is still a puppy in age but he himself thinks quit differently about it.  He feels, and therefore behaves as a ’tough guy’with an own character. Funny to see that he already behaves like a grown male when he is outside in the field. Where he first peed all at once, he pees a little bit in several places. We are now waiting for the moment he will lift his leg.

In appearance he is also changing visibly. His puppy coat is now largely swapped for a beautiful adult coat with a slight drop. The feathering on the legs are visible and he grows his ‘pants’. It are still short pants but it promises to be a nice brand ‘Drentse Patrijshond’. His tail he wears quite nice, especially near nice ladies. And it is bushier by the day.

rietjachtWe also notice that it he grows more adult in the field. More confident. A good example this week is when he went along with Eva on coots hunting. He hunted the coots in the reeds without any hesitation.

Moments later as he stood soaked again on dry land but you can see he really does not matter. He also  regular points for herons and other birds including even a swan. We are very curious how he will do it in a while in practice hunting. First, he has to become somewhat larger and more trained. Sit, stay -and follow exercises which we practice with him he understands quite well already!

That tough guys sometimes may still be small, we experienced this week. A visit from a sales representative from the kennel club  was on the agenda. This gentleman checked Floris chip because of the request that we had made to inscribe  in Dutch Dog Pedigree Standards.(NHSB) eva-en-floorAs many know Floris was born in beautiful Sweden. But to be deployed in the future as a stud in the Netherlands, he must be inscribed in the Dutch Pedigree. Floris did not like these checks and tried to get away in many ways. Once the chip was checked there had to be taken a DNA swap. Such a swab in his mouth, he did not agree to. He eventually surrendered and it was all arranged quickly. Our tough guy was so tired and impressed that he immediately fell into a deep sleep. Now it is waiting for his pedigree with his NHSB number.
