Resting and Rehab

The first week of the new year is already there. The week swirled around. Rather a switch for the whole pack; from the busy month of December to a relatively quiet month of January. Rehab from all visits to and from family, owners and friends. No gifts or extra treats more. Our five-man welcoming committee is cancelled for now and will be reinstated at the next party. (Do not worry, the pack remains complete!) Well, reinstating will be sooner than later because this month two masters celebrate their birthday.

Sometimes I wonder how a pack experiencing such a busy month. I do not mean the fireworks-stress because that’s known to every dog owner. But how does a pack experience the Christmas tree at home, all visits and our stress to get all groceries delivered at home on time? I have been watching the pack with extra attention the last few weeks to see how they have experienced the Christmas period. About the Christmas tree I can be brief; we did not have one. Visits we did have. Floris and the rest felt that was very cozy. If it were up to them, we should have invited all Hellevoetsluis. The pack is not averse to extra attention and hugs. And, do not forget the treats. There is always someone who “accidentally” drops something.

Grocerie-stress also does not appear in the Drents dictionary. The bags are thoroughly checked whether if we thought about bringing their food. And the seating arrangement they think is easy. We dogs should never eat at the table so boss what’s the fuss about? My conclusion is that we ourselves need rehab from the holidays. Not the pack.

Yet resting is very important for a dog. Especially for a puppy. Floris for example. We sometimes forget that he is still a puppy. He is in fact already bigger than our ladies, and he takes “already participating fully in the pack. But he definitely needs his rest after a walk or a (hunting) training. All that he has experienced, has to be stored in his head. He learns from this. Funny detail is that we sometimes experience this live. He is a true champion in dreaming!
