Floris travels with the pack

dsc_0294This week had a less happy start for Floris… Monday started with some intestinal problems. We are not startled by that, because it happens to the best; often it is cured after a day. During the day it got worse. That evening Flors started vomiting. Details I leave out but it was very sad to see, as he did not stop vomiting. After about 2 hours we thought it was enough and we called the attending veterinarian. Who thought it was important that we visited the clinic. The right decision, because although Floris is a tough guy, he’s still a puppy …

Despite the late hour, we were not the only ones at the vet but luckily it was out turn soon. After a thorough check the vet found nothing serious! Floris probably picked up something from the ground while walking in the field. To stop the vomiting he suffered a nasty injection. We were advised to give him rice with chicken broth the next day. After sleeping a night on the couch to be with Floris he was completely fit. I myself was less fit but the main thing was that Floris was healed. Rice he did not like however he did feel like eating as he stood at the counter to see if there was something for him. All he wanted to eat was his own food. He was the naughty Floris again, recovered in time to go to Belgium.

Before we would go on a journey with the pack Floris had a visit from Puck. A 10 months old Drent male and a son Geoff. Nice to see how the two played together and finally lay down with a little chunk sharing a pillow. Floris also helped to make garden ready for winter. A nice job with the help of Floris and the rest of the pack but it lasted quite some time. I had to pick many snails out of his mouth. “No Floris, these are not escargots ..” And a small twig that hung from his mouth appeared to be an earthworm  which was a bit panicked.

img_1881The big day arrived; all together by car to Belgium to visit Rex (son of Eva and Geoff) and his master Joke.

For the first time all five Drents together in the car. An easy job for Floris as if he makes a journey for 2.5 hours on a daily basis.

What a treat it was at Rex’. After completing all the pleasantries a total 6 Drents played together in the garden. It was great to see how they can play with each other. There are beautiful pictures taken!

After a few hours of playing the ‘big’ Drents got hiking and swimming in the canal.

Floris did not join this but made good use of the occasion to rest and have a beauty nap on Jokes new couch. And yes, he does at home too .. Gladly Joke is OK with it. After a lovely afternoon we drove home with 5 weary and satisfied Drents. Before we drove across the border they were already fast asleep.

As I write this blog, everyone is still asleep. A snoring Floris at my feet. Sunday we go on the road together again. Now to a pack of Drents led by grandmother Nienke. More about that next time…
